Epik.com never fully registered my new Domain
The breach of Epik.com client's trust continues.
Epik.com never fully registered my domain name.
Over the years, I’ve learned one crucial life lesson: to limit my thoughts and efforts when a person or business undermines my best interest.
Epik.com has denied both my personal and business best interest and breached its customers' trust. Doing so has delayed the plans for my newsletter.
Formerly when checking on newly registered domains, I query the domain the next business day, and each time a message appears to validate that the new website name is Under construction or that some other notice is posted in plain view.
I must admit I thought it was odd that my recent registrations at Epik.com failed to provide the Under Construction notice, and at that time, I wasn’t worried about it. As I began the process with Substack, I noticed my domain wasn’t appearing in my CPANEL at Epik.com, and there was no way to complete the required tasks.
Yesterday I posted my concerns titled: What is going on at Epik.com
Late Sunday night, I decided to query the domain via WHOIS and discovered that my domain was available. I quickly purchased the same domain I had already paid for with Epik.com with another provider.
Essentially I paid Epik.com a fee to secure and register my custom domain name, and while they took my money, they failed to act in my best interest, and the same mischief occurred with my other domain name.
Since the domain wasn’t registered as it should have been, Epik.com placed my plans at risk.
With my last post about Epik.com, I surmised the odd behavior from Epik.com may imply they were looking for a buyer to purchase the company, and my gut instinct was correct according to sparse information found online, they have sold the company with no notice to its customer base.
Reports imply the founder embezzled money from a transaction exceeding $300,000.00, and the founder has denied this claim. Based on my own experience, the company appears to be riddled with drama and fallout from poor management.
My final thoughts about Epik.com
I currently have live domains held at Epik.com, and I’m uncertain about the future of my domains held at Epik.com. No updates have been received from Epik.com, and no reply has been provided via customer service, nor has any announcement been provided on their Twitter account. Perhaps they are waiting on direction from the law firm handling the sale of Epik.com, and as each day passes, Epik.com's recovery in the hosting and domain space will prove to be more difficult. It’s also possible they will lose their accreditation as a domain registrar, and if so, the company will cease to exist.
I intend to file a complaint with ICANN and will do so once my newsletter is live.
Historically speaking, before registering my two recent domains, the customer service provided by Epik.com staff was outstanding, and I never had a single problem with Epik.com.
We may never fully understand the circumstances in which the founder was implicated, so I hope each person involved in the conflict can pass through a better person.
If you are a current or former employee reading this post, I hope each of you finds your way thru this challenging time.
If you are a customer and you registered your domain at Epik.com and received a receipt, as I have, you should immediately query your domain name and check it with WHOIS. You should immediately register your domain name elsewhere if the domain is available.
If you are a Substack writer considering registering your custom domain, please do so with another registrar, not Epik.com.
During times of conflict created by others, we shall never submit to illogical behavior but overcome it.
